VINnocent is a free vehicle identification number lookup service available at vinnocent.com. For privacy related questions contact us at legal@vinnocent.com
Data you provide: We do not require you to create an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any personal information to use this service.
Data collected automatically: When you visit vinnocent.com, standard web server logs and analytics tools may collect:
VIN numbers entered into our search tool are transmitted to the NHTSA vPIC API and the NHTSA Recalls API to retrieve vehicle data. Individual VIN searches are not stored on our servers and are not associated with any user. VINs you have searched are saved locally in your own browser (localStorage) and never transmitted to us. VIN search logs and visitor logs are stored separately and cannot be cross-referenced. There is no way to associate a VIN search with a specific visitor record.
We use automatically collected data solely to: understand how the site is being used, improve site performance and user experience, and diagnose technical issues. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data for marketing.
We do not use tracking cookies. We use your browser's localStorage to save your recent VIN lookups locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
To provide our service we interact with the following third party APIs. When you perform a modern VIN lookup, your search is processed by these services. Classic VIN lookups are resolved from VINnocent's internal historical records database and do not contact external third party APIs.
NHTSA vPIC API (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) — vehicle specification data. Operated by the US Department of Transportation. Subject to their privacy policy. NHTSA Recalls API (api.nhtsa.gov) — safety recall data. Operated by the US Department of Transportation. fueleconomy.gov — EPA fuel economy data. Operated by the US Department of Energy. flagcdn.com — country flag images displayed with vehicle origin data. ip-api.com — IP geolocation service used to derive approximate geographic location from visitor IP addresses. Subject to their privacy policy at ip-api.com/docs. Google Fonts — fonts loaded from fonts.googleapis.com. Subject to Google's privacy policy. We also use Google Search Console to monitor search performance. This service may process anonymized data about how users find our site via Google Search.
We maintain server-side logs of page visits including IP address, referrer, browser type, and approximate location. These logs are stored on our own servers, are not shared with any third party, and are used solely for internal analytics. VINnocent also maintains an internal database of historical vehicle manufacturer records used solely to power the classic VIN decoder. This database contains no user data.
Since we collect minimal data and do not maintain personal profiles, there is little personal data to request or delete. However if you have any concerns about data we may hold related to you, contact us at legal@vinnocent.com and we will respond promptly.
VINnocent is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect when it was last updated. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
